Local Early Education Planning Council
The Local Early Education Planning Council (LPC) is a collaborative association of representatives from the early care and education field, including parents, child care providers, businesses, and government. A joint committee of board members from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Santa Clara County Board of Education oversees the Council.
The Council brings together parents, community members, government representatives, and child care providers to:
- assess local child care needs
- set local priorities for use of state and federal funds
- affect public policy decisions regarding early education and before & after school programs
If you work or live in Santa Clara County, and you are interested in supporting and improving the early education opportunities for young children, your participation is needed. We are looking for:
- parents with children in child care
- child care providers
- public agency representatives
- community members
8 County Early Care & Education Legislative Forum
On November 18th, 2011, a legislative forum on early care and early education was held at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Participating legislative panelists included Assembly Member Joan Buchanan, D-Alamo; Assembly Member Paul Fong, D-Cupertino; and Assembly Member Rich Gordon, D-Menlo Park. Ted Lempert, president of Children Now, a national research and advocacy organization based in Oakland, delivered the keynote at the event as well.
The forum's goal was for attendees and the legislators to engage in a dialog about how current state legislation affects early care and early education programs. The forum was coordinated by eight area Child Care Planning Councils, representing Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties.
